Making progress in reducing injury: some challenges

John Langley's address

The presentation will demonstrate that we face some significant challenges to making progress in reducing injury in New Zealand. These include, but are not limited to, issues to do with: injury surveillance, identifying risk and protective factors, evaluation, and monitoring performance. Examples for each of these will focus on priority areas identified in the New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy.

It will demonstrated that the challenges are largely surmountable. What is critical to resolution is greater acceptance: of an evidence based approach, that there few if any quick fixes, and there is need to make appropriate resource commitments to resolve them.
