About the course The Foundation Certificate in Injury Prevention - Te Aho Tapu (FCIP) programme is the result of collaboration between ACC, NZTA, MoH, NZIPS Secretariat and IPNANZ. FCIP aims to provide a clear understanding of injury prevention theory and community-based practice enabling participants to run effective good practice injury prevention projects. - Definition and key categories of injury
- Identifying the size and scope of an injury problem
- How to access relevant research and injury data
- Key concepts and models of injury prevention
- A Māori model of hauoratanga and its relevance
- Planning and evaluation of an injury prevention project
- Working in communities with increased risk of injury
- Influencing public policy decision makers.
Assessment This course is pitched at NZQA Level 3-4, and requires a level of literacy equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0 (year 13 or first year of tertiary study) as assessment for this 22 credit course is mostly based on written work. Four unit standards assessed at the training are: - Injury Prevention 22236: Demonstrate knowledge of injury and injury problems (Level 3, 3 credits),
- Injury Prevention 22237: Describe key concepts and models of injury prevention (Level 3, 3 credits).
- Interpersonal Communications 11101: Collaborate within a group/team which has an objective (Level 4, 4 credits).
- Reading 2989: Select, assess, and read texts to gain knowledge (Level 2, 3 credits).
Two unit standards assessed after the training are: - Injury Prevention 22238: Describe the skills required by an injury prevention practitioner to work in the community (Level 3, 5 credits).
- Injury Prevention 22239: Develop an injury prevention project plan to address an identified issue (Level 4, 4 credits).

Cost $400 (plus GST). The fee does not cover accommodation, airfares or transport costs. Cancellation fees of 50% apply four weeks prior to the training start date.
